Pepper — Therapy

Location: Alexandria, VA

Pepper, a charming seven-year-old black Labrador, is making a remarkable impact on the District of Columbia’s criminal justice system as a Courthouse Dog at the Office of the Attorney General in DC. Trained by NEADS, Pepper knows over fifty commands and has a special gift for comforting those in need. She provides emotional support to victims and families affected by severe crimes, including homicide, sexual assault, and domestic violence. Whether accompanying victims to court or sitting quietly at their feet during testimony, Pepper offers a reassuring presence. Her compassion has been evident in cases like the tragic, fatal stabbing of a teenage girl over a McDonald’s sauce packet and the brutal attack on a family at the Washington Monument.

Beyond her professional duties, Pepper brings joy with her playful frisbee games and peanut butter-filled Kong toy. As a cherished friend and beacon of hope in the courthouse, Pepper underscores the profound impact therapy dogs have on the judicial system, highlighting their crucial role in supporting and healing those affected by crime.
